Hey everyone!!
As discussed before, in a journal here and in many notes sent by truly involved contributors, we have created a "Wildlife-Awareness" group, 2nd edition :D
It has been made to replace this one, in which some folders are becoming full, and your devoted admins can't do anything about it without our founder, who hasn't been seen on DA for a few years...
So please, let's all migrate to our new wildlife-art-related place: @Wildlife--Awareness !!
I will keep this group going for a while, so each of you has time to join the new group and in order to give me time to set up everything for the new group...
The Animal of the Month art of January will be included in both groups, naturally,... From February on, your AotM art should be submitted to the new group, pleasse :)
I wish you all a lovely day!!
Happy New Year to you all, wildlife friends!!
We wish you a wonderful and creative year and we hope the world will see more and more species being protected and saved!
The animal for this month is the Irrawaddy Dolphin, a really cute and small dolphin that lives in the waters of South-Eastern Asia and north of Australia... It has a very short nose, round flippers and looks a bit like a beluga... These dolphins are generally very shy with humans, except when they cooperate with traditional fishers (it happens in Burma and India, among other places), helping the fishers catch fish by pushing a school towards the boats, and being rewarded with bycatch and some of the fish... I think it's a very cool partnership :)
Sadly, the Irrawady Dolphins are endangered, mostly because they live close to coasts and can be caught in the nets of non-traditional fishers or be killed by dynamite fishing (seriously? I was shocked to read it is still legal in some countries), are victims of pollution and habitat destruction.
Protection programs and laws have been implemented very recently in some of the countries they live in, but closeness to rapidly developing human communities make things difficult... so let's all make much, much art to raise awareness about them!!! They need attention and protection... so maybe with our art, we can give them some of the attention they need to find more protectors!

Hi everyone!
I wish you all a wonderful month of December, full of creativity and truly original, just like our Animal of the Month, the Platypus!
I'm sure all of you have heard about how special these furry Australian and Tasmanian, duck-billed and beaver-tailed, are... and yet... they are so unique in many ways that I bet not many people have heard about some of their most intriguing characteristics, like the fact that they're venomous, use electrolocation or that their eyes are, biologically speaking, close to Lamprey's or pacific Hagfish's ...
So, dear Wildlife friends, we're awaiting your drawings, paintings, photos, poems, sculptures, or any other kind of art about the lovely and intriguing Platypus!
You can learn more about it here: Platypus - Wikipedia
Just FYI, I intend to "migrate" the group at the end of this month or at the start of January... but it doesn't change anything for the Animal of the Month folder... I will simply request all the art we will have accepted in this group to the next one... you won't have anything to do, except clicking on "yes" ;)
and now, many, many thanks for the cool Laotian Rock Rat art we got in November!!

Kha Nyou - Animal of November 2020
Hey everyone!
After exchanging a few notes with the other admin of this group, @Seraphi91 , I've decided to talk to you about a group migration... See, our founder, @LeahCK hasn't been heard of since 2017 here and, since she is the founder, she's the only one who can create new folders when the current ones will be full... So what's going to happen, if we do nothing, is that folders will become full, no art will be accepted anymore, and the group will disappear... And it would be too bad, really, since we have a very active little community, great contributors and cool art posted every week :)
So I was thinking about creating the same group again, of course with a little name change, like wildlifeawareness, wildlife-group, nature-awareness or whatever (suggestions are welcome), with me as a founder, so I could manage the folders and keep on accepting your awesome art... Anyone who would like to become an admin would be welcome :)
And now, I'd like your opinion:
1. If the group was created again, would you join?
2. Do you have any suggestions about the name of the new group?
3. Would you arrange the folders differently, add/remove a category? For example, I would probably add a folder for flora, since many of our regular contributors make wonderful photos/drawing/paintings of plants...
4. do you have any other idea you'd like to see implemented?
I'm really looking forward to reading your ideas!!
Have a creative day!
Hey everyone! Happy month of November!
I bet not many of you, just like me 5 minutes ago, have heard of one of the cutest fluffy rodent I've ever seen, the Kha-Nyou!! And it's not just cute, it's at the same time very old and very young! In fact, it was first described by scientists only in 1996, which makes it a very young species, and very old, since it is probably a descendant of a family of rodent (Diatomyidae) that seems to have disappeared 11 million years ago -isn't that amazing? Today, the Kha-Nyou is the only species in its family and is considered, like coelacanth, to be a "living fossil"!
They live in Laos and Vietnam, look like a mix between rats and squirrels, are mostly herbivorous and live on limestone boulders and cliffs. Unlike many rodents, they give birth to a single baby at a time.

Now, I want to thank you, all of you who took time to make art about the Blue-Throated Macaw in October!! Really, many thanks, it makes me smile to see great artists joining our little event, for fun and for wildlife :)
